a friend of mine named paul received an automobile from his brother as a christmas present. on christmas eve when paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it.

"is this your car, mister?" he said.

paul nodded. "my brother gave it to me for christmas." the boy was astounded. "you mean your brother gave it to you and it didnsquo;t cost you nothing? boy, i wish . . ." he hesitated.

of course paul knew what he was going to wish for. he was going to wish he had a brother like that. but what the lad said jarred paul all the way down to his heels.

"i wish," the boy went on, "that i could be a brother like that."

paul looked at the boy in astonishment, then impulsively he added, "would you like to take a ride in my car?"

"oh yes, id love that."

after a short ride, the boy turned with his eyes aglow, said, "mister, would you mind driving in front of my house?"

paul smiled a little. he thought he knew what the lad wanted. he wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile. but paul was wrong again. "will you stop where those two steps are?" the boy asked.

he ran up the steps. then in a little while paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. he was carrying his little crippled brother. he sat him down on the bottom step, then sort of squeezed up against him and pointed to the car.

"there she is, buddy, just like i told you upstairs. his brother gave it to him for christmas and it didnsquo;t cost him a cent. and some day im gonna give you one just like it . . . then you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the christmas windows that ive been trying to tell you about." paul got out and lifted the lad to the front seat of his car. the shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began a memorable holiday ride. that christmas eve, paul learned

what jesus meant when he said: "it is more blessed to give . . . "

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I’m Li Xin, from Class 8 Grade 1. Today, my topic is, “What can I do for Beijing Olympic Games?”

I am looking forward to the day’s coming--- August eighth 20xx, the day Beijing Olympic Games will be open, the day sports families gather in Beijing, and the day all the Chinese feel proud.

As a little host, I really want to be a volunteer. However, I am too young, but I can still do something for it.

Firstly, as a Chinese, I will welcome every friend from every part of the world. My smile will show my friendship, and the foreign friends are sure to know Beijing better from the smile on my face.

Next, I will study English harder. During the Olympic Games, I can communicate with the foreign friends in English and serve for them, such as to be an interpreter, to show them the way, and let them love Beijing more from my kind help.

Thirdly, I will learn more knowledge about Beijing and the Olympic Games. In this way, I can

introduce beautiful Beijing to foreign guests --- its long history, latest development and the wonderful future. Further more, I’ll try to let them know more about our country by introducing Chinese 5,000—year old history to them.

At last, I will call on every student around me to learn good manners and treasure our only home---the earth. From now on, we should do what we can for the Beijing Olympic Games, making it a real Green Olympics, humanities Olympics, technology Olympics!

“One world, One dream.” I hope my dream will also come true!

Let’s wish the best for the 20xx Olympic Games.

Thanks for your listening!

As many of you may know, I am a first-generation college graduate – I’m proud of it. My family had very little money. We lived in a small town.

And try as I might to fit in, I always felt like an outsider and often was treated as one. My father was an immigrant, and the only person around who spoke with a strong foreign accent. In elementary school, I was the only Jewish girl.

And…and one day – I remember this vividly – in fifth grade, I learned just how easily false stereotypes about minorities can arise.

That’s when another blond-haired, blue-eyed girl moved into my class. My best friend Diane took one look, turned to me, and said, “Oh! She must be Jewish, too!”

My hometown may not have understood or celebrated diversity, but it treated me and my family respectfully.

I never took that for granted given my father’s escape from Nazi Germany. My parents even joined with others in neighboring towns to create the first synagogue.

Wonderfully…wonderfully…wonderfully dedicated and caring teachers helped prepare me for college. And I couldn’t wait to go.

in order to get high marks, some students figure out all the ways, theworse situation is to plagiarize other student’s hard-working. plagiarism is abig mistake, the teachers are always emphasizing it, but the lazy students goagainst the rule, they want to pass assessment easily. these students should beshameful about themselves.

on the one hand, plagiarizing means the lack of respect of other students’hard-working. students need to spend many hours and put a lot of effort tofinish the paper; the outcome means their wisdom and paid, just as the oldsaying, “no pain, no gain”. while the lazy students destroy other students’effort, they just get the job done without their own thinking; they can even getthe more high marks. this is very unfair; every student should finish the taskin their own wisdom, showing respect to each other.

on the other hand, the students who are used to plagiarism will end uphurting themselves. if the students’ such behavior is found by others, they willget bad record in their files, which means they will have problem on trustissues, it is hard for them to find a job. if they are lucky to not be found, they still learn nothing, they lack of ability.

in conclusion, plagiarism is a shameful behavior; students should learnthings by their own minds.

when I finally arrived on campus, I was in for a surprise. In fact, I was stunned. I had never before in my life felt poor. As a scholarship student, suddenly, I was surrounded by people who were so astoundingly rich! I was also fascinated by this and other differences – different faiths, politics, ethnicities, and culture.

And sure, at times it was uncomfortable. There were many moments I just wanted to turn around and go back home to my mother’s warm embrace – and also her great home cooking!

And like every one of you…every one of you, I made the best, most important choice of my life: I would pick up the threads of differences to weave myself a new community.

This would become my cause, my mission, my identity. I had found my purpose, rooted in beloved community.

I was inspired by the work of Dr. Martin Luther King. He called upon us all to embrace inclusion, love, and justice. He preached the soul force of nonviolent protest.

He warned against the perils of tribalism, of clinging to the familiar and holding sacred the status quo.

King famously addressed his…go ahead…he famously addressed his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” not to his jailers, but to his “fellow clergymen.”

He challenged them to reject the status quo. In King’s words, we find the essence of beloved community, recognizing that: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

the world in which we live is a very beautiful world. about seven-tenths of the earth is water while three-tenths is land.

water is “life food” of our earth.. it runs through mountains and valleys. it forms lakes and seas.

at the mouths of the rivers, fresh water joins the salt water of the sea. here at the mouth of a river, there is very important plant and animal life.

what a beautiful day: the sun is shining and the sky is so blue. the land, oceans, mountains and rivers, plants and animals…everything looks bright and gay.

the sun gives us light, keeps us warm and makes things grow.

sometimes, white clouds are like ships sailing across the sky.

sometimes, the dark clouds bring us rain or snow. sometimes, after the rain, you can see a very beautiful rainbow across the sky.

at night, we can seee thousands of stars and sometimes, the big round moon. the dark sky dotted with bright stars is like a picture! there is so much to see in our beautiful world.

i agree or not agree: the next twenty years from now on, students will not use printed books any more.

i don't think so. printed books won't be abandoned in such a short time. i admit that new technology is developing fast. many advanced electronic products are gradually take the place of traditional tools. just like in university, teachers like to use multimedia in class for it is quite convenient and efficient. however, for our student, it is not realistic to study completely by electronic products.

there are many things need to recorded on books. books are something meaningful and practical. i should say, in our country, printed books wouldn't be abandoned within 20 years at least for two reasons. firstly, books are classical container of knowledge. they accompany human to advance. a student without books could be someway ridiculous. secondly, our country haven't developed so strong to make every student study by computer or other forms of electronic tools. and even after 20 years, the possibility is also very small. i also think it is unnecessary because books are cheap but useful and still meaningful.

good morning everyone

it's a great honor for me to stand here to deliver a speech to you. then today i want to talk something about dreams and reality.

as the famous russian litterateur lev tolstoy (列夫、托爾斯泰)said, ideal is the beacon(煙火、燈塔). without ideal, there is no secure (無慮的,安全的',安心的,可靠的,保險的)direction; without a direction, there is no life. so theresquo;s no doubt that everyone needs his or her own ideal. have you ever thought that what is practical and sensible(.明智的,有感覺的,明理的) will connect with our most treasured dreams? maybe, to somebody, reality has little relation to ideal. to others nothing can be done without the sense of reality. so make our dreams a part of our reality. and make our reality a part of our dreams. there is no reason why our dreams must oppose our reality. improve our dreams and our reality by bringing them together.

as a university student, establishing a dream is one of the most important things we have to do everyone must see the reality clearly at first. your family condition, your personal ability, your social intercourse (交往、交流), your subject and the job you want to do, these things show you the reality and lead you to establish a dream.

further more, difficult or otherwise, we should put the power of reality into our dreams. last but not least remember to work hard at the task of chasing追逐our dreams. do believe that we can achieve our ideal step by step by the passage of time!

in the end, i want to share with you a poetry named " i think i can".

maybe you can not understand the meaning of the poetry , but do not be worried ,let me tell you the meaning

thank you for your listening!

ladies and gentlemen , good afternoon! isquo;m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. today my topic is life. i hope you will like it ,

mansquo;s life is a process of growing up, actually isquo;m standing here is a growth. if a personsquo;s life must constituted by various choices, then i grow up along with these choices. once i hope i can study in a college in future, however thatsquo;s passed, as you know i come here, now i wonder what the future holds for (= what will happen to) me.

when i come to this school, i told to myself: this my near future, all starts here. following i will learn to become a man, a integrated man, who has a fine body, can take on important task, has independent thought, an open mind, intensive thought, has the ability to judge right and wrong, has a perfect job.

once my teacher said : you are not sewing, you are stylist; never forget which you should lay out to people is your thought, not craft. i will put my personality with my interest and ability into my study, during these process i will combine learning with doing. if i can achieve this future, i think that i really grow up. and i deeply believe kindred, good-fellowship and love will perfection and happy in the future.

how to say future? maybe itsquo;s a nice wish. lets make up our minds, stick to it and surely well enjoy our life.

In the walls of ice, in the thrones of iron, we see a mirror for our times.

We recognize our own world, where too many live for their tribe alone. Where too often, we listen only to those who think, look, and believe as we do.

Where the game seems rigged against open and free exploration. We hear too few dissenting voices, and we consider too few conflicting views. But remember: None of this is inevitable.

We can glorify our own tribe to the exclusion of others. We can build up our walls, and we can cast down those who are different.

Or we can better use the strength in our hearts and the power in our hands.

Our many identities and beliefs: We make these our threads. Our diverse backgrounds and goals: They become our loom.

From this world of differences, we can weave a tapestry of communities.

Weaving…yeah…weaving is hard work, especially when we interlace many into one. Our identities may clash. Our beliefs diverge. We disagree over where we want to go. We argue about the best way to get there.

But when – together – we embrace the challenge, the cloth of human understanding grows more resilient. We craft something stronger by far…by far than iron thrones and walls of ice.

In my 18 years of life, there have been many things. University days are the best part of them. I can never forget the days when I stepped into my university. I was impressed by its garden-like campus, its enthusiastic students and especially its learning atmosphere. I at once fell in love with it.

After the arduous military training, I get absolutely absorbed in my studies. The classes given by the teachers are excellent. They provide us with information not only from our textbooks but from many other sources as well. They easily arouse my insatiable desire to take in as much as I can.

Frankly speaking, at first I had some difficulty following the teachers. However, through my own efforts and thanks to my teachers' guidance, I made remarkable progress. Now I've benefited a lot from lectures and many other academic reports.

Learning is a long process; I'll keep exploring in the treasure house of knowledge to enrich myself. I also realize that only those who bring happiness for others can be truly happy. So I often take part in activities concerning public welfare.

Besides study and social practice, there are entertainments as well. I do body building every day, hoping to keep healthy and energetic.

Campus life is the most splendid time. But different people have different choices. The majority of students cherish their beautiful season and cherish the hope that one day they'll become outstanding. But there are indeed some students still under ignorance. They gather together for eating, drinking or playing cards. They're busy in searching for a girlfriend or a boyfriend. They forget completely about their mission as college students and the hope of their motherland.

Finally, I do hope everybody can try their best to become a worthy citizen of the country. I do hope everybody can become the backbone of our nation and make great contributions to society!
